AAC Valves
- Sizes: Valves come in sizes 2” thru 8” nominal connections
- Easily installed, compact, air intake valves for diesel engine emergency shut down
- Air Pressure to Close / Auto Reset
- New speed switch kit available for a complete overspeed installation
The AAC Valve is an “Air Actuated Closed” Diesel Engine Air Intake Shutoff Valve Device. It takes an air (pneumatic signal) to open the valve on the Engine Start up and during normal operating parameters. The valve is a butterfly style valve with an incorporated pneumatic actuator with a reset.
The AAC version of the FPE A Series of shutdown valves is designed to be installed in the air intake system of a diesel engine to provide an emergency means of rapid shutdown.
The AAC valve is suitable for applications where there is a supply of filtered dry or lubricated air (or inert gas) available form 3 to 8 Bar (43 to 116 psi). This air supply is used to close the AAC valve thereby bringing the running engine to a stop within a few seconds in an emergency. Venting of the air pressure signal results in the automatic reset of the valve to the open condition. This mode of operation makes the AAC valve suitable for applications where non-failsafe operation is permitted such as emergency vehicles etc.
A shutdown control system is required to automatically apply the air pressure signal to the AAC when engine overspeed or any other selected fault condition is sensed.
AAO Valves
- Sizes: Valves come in sizes 2” thru 8” nominal connections
- Air Pressure to Open / Spring to Close (failsafe)
- Part of the A Series of easily installed, compact, air intake valves for diesel engine emergency shut down.
- New Speed Switch Kit available for a complete overspeed installation
The AAO version of the FPE A Series of shutdown valves is designed to be installed in the air intake system of a diesel engine to provide an emergency means of rapid shutdown.
The AAO valve is suitable for applications where there is a supply of filtered dry or lubricated air (or inert gas) available form 3 to 8 Bar (43 to 116 psi). This air supply is used to close the AAO valve thereby bringing the running engine to a stop within a few seconds in an emergency. Venting of the air pressure signal results in the automatic reset of the valve to the open condition. This mode of operation makes the AAO valve suitable for applications where non-failsafe operation is permitted such as emergency vehicles etc.
A shutdown control system is required to automatically vent the air pressure signal to the AAO when engine overspeed or any other selected fault condition, including loss of the supply air pressure, is sensed.
Important Note: A manual emergency shutdown button should also be incorporated in the shutdown control system. The low intake air flow restriction through the open valve makes it generally compatible with the requirements of low emission diesel engines.
Corrosion resistant materials are used where applicable in the construction of the valve. This lightweight and compact valve design together with the availability of factory fitted hose adaptors selected from a wide range of optional sizes assists in easy installation.
The valve may be fitted to either turbocharged or naturally aspirated engines. In the case of turbocharged engines temperature limitations may restrict the position in which the valve may be installed in the intake system.
BAE Valves
- Dimensions Vary:: See Chart
- Solenoid Powered to Close
- Auto Reset Butterfly Valves
- Part of the B Series of easily installed, compact, air intake valves for diesel engine emergency shut down.
The BAE version of the Fluid Power Energy (FPE) B Series of engine air intake closure valves is designed to be installed in the air intake system of a diesel engine, providing an emergency rapid shut down when triggered by a12 or 24 volt signal. This signal may be generated automatically by engine overspeed or any other selected fault conditions and/or applied via a manual emergency stop button.
Once the BAE valve has operated to stop the engine the valve will automatically reset to the open (engine run) position, as soon as the shut down signal is no longer applied.
The low intake air flow restriction through the open valve, makes it generally compatible with the requirements of low emission diesel engines.
Corrosion resistant materials are used where applicable in the construction of the valve. This lightweight and compact valve design, together with the availability of factory fitted hose adaptors selected from a wide range of optional sizes assists in easy installation.
The valve may be fitted to work with either turbocharged or naturally aspirated engines. In the case of turbocharged engines, temperature limitations may restrict the position in which the valve may be installed in the intake system.
Note: FPE also supplies speed switches for incorporation into the emergency shut down control circuit for this type of application. Please contact FPE or your FPE supplier for details.
Enhanced Protection
The FPE B series of intake shut down valves are also available with cable operated manual shut down. Contact FPE or your FPE supplier about this additional safety feature.
BE Valves
- Solenoid Powered to Open/Spring to Close (fail-safe)
- Part of the B Series of easily installed, compact, air intake valves for diesel engine emergency shut down.
The BE version of the Fluid Power Energy (FPE) B Series of shut down valves is designed to be installed in the air intake system of a diesel engine to provide an emergency rapid shut down.
An electrical signal must be applied continuously to hold the BE valve in the open state. This enables the engine to be started and run. Loss of this electrical signal results in closure of the valve thereby bringing the running engine to a stop within a few seconds.
An electrical shut down control system is required to interrupt the electrical signal to the valve automatically. This takes place during engine overspeed or any other selected fault condition.
Additionally, a manual emergency stop button is there to enable the electrical signal to the valve to be switched off and should be incorporated.
Any loss of power supply to the shut down control circuit or fault within the control circuit causes loss of signal output and would also result in an engine shut down.
BME Valves
- Solenoid Powered to Close/Manual Reset Butterfly Valve
- Part of the B Series of easily installed, compact, air intake valves for diesel engine emergency shut down
The Fluid Power Energy (FPE) BME valve series is designed to provide an emergency means for rapid shut down of a diesel engine, when triggered by a 12 or 24 volt signal. This signal may be generated automatically by an engine overspeed or any other selected fault conditions. It can also be generated by a manually operated electrical engine stop button. For additional safety, the valve can also be supplied with a mechanical emergency engine stop button. This can be either directly mounted on the valve or remotely mounted for use, via a mechanical cable.
Once the BME valve has worked to stop the engine, a restart is only possible after manually resetting the valve to the run position.
The low intake air flow restriction through the open valve, makes it generally compatible with the requirements of low emission diesel engines.
Corrosion resistant materials are used, where applicable, in the construction of the valve. This lightweight and compact valve design, together with the availability of factory fitted hose adapters selected from a wide range of optional sizes, assists in easy installation.
The valve may be fitted to either turbocharged or naturally aspirated engines. In the case of turbocharged engines, temperature limitations may restrict the position in which the valve is installed in the intake system.
Note: FPE also supplies speed switches for incorporation into the emergency shut down control circuit of this type of application. Please contact FPE or your FPE supplier for details.
C Valves
Engine Power: 4 – 603 HP Mass: 0.6 – 17.6 LB Height: 2.07 – 4.9 in.
- A range of easily installed diesel engine air intake valves that automatically close on engine overspeed
- Automatic Engine Overspeed Shut Down Valves
The Fluid Power Energy (FPE) C Series automatic overspeed shut down valves are designed for situations where flammable gas or vapor may enter the atmosphere in an area in which a diesel engine is operating.
Should such flammable material be drawn into the engine intake, this may result in uncontrolled engine overspeed, and a situation in which shut down of the diesel fuel supply may fail to stop the engine.
Under these circumstances, a rapid shut down of the engine is required by immediate closure of the engine air intake thereby reducing the potential for significant damage and possible ignition of the flammable material in the surrounding atmosphere.
The FPE C Series automatic engine air intake shut down valves are suitable for installation in the intakes of either naturally aspirated or turbocharged engines.
Once installed and set, the repeatability of the actual engine automatic shut down speed has a greater scatter in the case of turbocharged engines than for naturally aspirated types. However, unless there is an individual requirement for an exact shut down speed, adequate protection from excessive engine overspeed is achieved.
