Air Shutoff Valve

The Air Shut Off Valve is used in the air intake connection of a diesel engine, located between the intake air filter and the turbocharger inlet (or the intake manifold if the engine is not turbocharged), as an emergency device to stop the airflow to the combustion chamber and shut down the engine.

An emergency condition may be determined by the equipment operator, or the engine may shut down automatically if combustible gases present in the environment are drawn into the engine intake, which can cause the engine speed to become uncontrollable by the engine’s fuel control system.
